How to Prepare for Your Metabolic Test

 

Download and Fax or Mail Your Forms Before Your Test:

• Go to the Forms Library and download your Health History, Exercise History, and Exercise Consent Form.

• Fax to (650) 851-5155 or mail to 101 Glenwood Ave., Woodside, CA 94062.

 

RMR Test Preparation:

• Fast for 8-12 hours prior to test time (no consumption of food or beverage except water)

• No exercise or strenuous activity 12 hours prior to test

• Try to remain relaxed during the 3 hours prior to your test

• Wear comfortable clothing to your test

 

VO2 Treadmill Test Preparation:

• Do not consume food, drinks, 4 hours prior to testing,   water consumption is highly recommended up to test time

No caffeine for 5-6 hours prior to testing

Keep your body well hydrated throughout the day of your test

• No strenuous exercise the day prior to test

• No exercise the day of the test

• Wear athletic clothes and bring appropriate shoes for your treadmill test

 

VO2 Bike Test Preparation:

• Do not consume food, drinks, mints 4 hours prior to testing, water consumption is highly recommended up to test time

No caffeine for 5-6 hours prior to testing

Keep your body well hydrated throughout the day of your test

• No strenuous exercise the day prior to test

• No exercise the day of the test

• Bring all gear (bike, shoes, shorts, socks, and comfortable shirt)

• Your bike should be cleaned and in good operating condition

• 90-110 psi (pounds of air pressure in tires)

LT Test Preparation:

No heavy activity the morning before the test.

Schedule at least 1 week after an ultra-endurance event (i.e. marathon) or 4 days after a race.

It is okay to drink water during the test.

If you are interested in pacing, schedule the test 1-2 weeks before the event.

Eat a meal 3-4 hours before and a small carbohydrate snack (a fruit) 1 hour before.

Test should be specific to sport: On a bike if a cyclist, on a treadmill if a walker or runner, on a row if a rower, etc.

 

Retests: 

If you have already been issued an assessment kit (including mask), please remember to bring it with you.
